Having regular backups of production file servers is incredibly important, I cannot stress this point enough, check your backups every day. However if you find a server on your network that is not being backed up, all is not lost. Fortunately Windows Server (2008 & 2012) has a built in feature called Windows Server Backup.
News: MetroTube for Windows Phone Updated
Yesterday (10th October) MetroTube app on my Lumia 930 was updated. The update was to version 4.6.8.0
Looking in the Windows Store the notes for version 4.6.8 report the following fixes
- Fixed issues with subscribing
- Corrected channel names
I use this app a lot and if you have a Windows Phone you should too.

Tech Note: Backup with File History
Windows 8 & 10 come with a useful built in utility called File History. This feature of Windows automatically backs up the entire contents of all your libraries (both standard and ones you create) to an external USB stick or HDD every hour, which is the default setting.

Certs: Passing 70-411 Administrating Windows Server 2012
In July 2015 I sat and passed the 70-411 Microsoft Exam. Although not as tough a test as the 412 the amount of material covered make this a tricky exam and you really have to know your stuff. The passing score is 700 and above, I scored 890. My charts by objective domain are shown below
News: Twitter App for Windows Phone get an update
The official Twitter app for Windows Phone got an update today, the update happened overnight and went from version 3.2.2.0 to 3.2.3.0. Looking in the Windows Store for details about the update, it only mentions “various bug fixes”

The next objective in the 70-412 path is all about managing roles on failover clusters. This objective will cover adding a role to a failover cluster along with configuring the role properties such as preferred owners, failover settings, and startup priority.

There has been a lot of chat on the internet regarding the privacy settings in Windows 10. When you first install and configure Windows 10 the installer will encourage you to choose “Express Settings” which I think most users (including me) will choose. However this will perhaps give Microsoft more information about you than is comfortable. So with this in mind I thought it best to go back and review the privacy setting on my two Windows 10 computers and document what I find.
