As you may or may not know, in November I will be attending the technical day of the Microsoft event Future Decoded. Not having attended an event of this type before I’m not sure what to expect, so it’s kind of a step into the unknown, but one I’m extremely excited about. Checking out the agenda for the technical day (see below) and looking through the list of “Technical Deep Dives” I’m thrilled at the prospect.

Blog: HTC8x Update to Windows Phone 8.1
I’ve been meaning to write this up for a while and for whatever reason I never got the time to do it. So although its a bit out of date now, here’s a few screen shots I took when my HTC 8x finally received the 8.1 update via Vodafone.
Blog: My Surface 2 finally gets THAT update
Today my Surface 2 finally downloaded the update unofficially known has “Update 3 for Windows RT”, although it’s detailed on the Microsoft web site as “Update for Windows RT 8.1 feature improvement”
Blog: Windows Update Delivery Optimization
Another feature of Windows 10 that is getting a lot of heat on at present is Windows Update Delivery Optimization. This feature does two things, and is turned on by default.
Blog: Windows 10 Privacy Settings
There has been a lot of chat on the internet regarding the privacy settings in Windows 10. When you first install and configure Windows 10 the installer will encourage you to choose “Express Settings” which I think most users (including me) will choose. This is the second part of the Tech On Holiday: South Devon series.
One of the things I wanted to do was to see if a smart phone could replace my digital camera. I have used a Panasonic Lumix FZ45 for the past few years, it’s a great device if a little bulky, so if my Lumix 930 is good enough to replace it full time when on the road then I may consider it. This test will be ongoing over a number of months, but here is the first comparison.

So, I’m on holiday this week (11th – 18th July 2015) and I thought it would be a good opportunity to detail what tech I’ve brought along for the ride and what online services I can use based on the availability and quality of internet access.
Let’s start by going through the devices I have with me.

Damaged 2850
Back before the Christmas holidays I was asked by a customer if it would be possible to replace their ageing and increasingly unreliable Dell 2850 server with a newer more reliable one, still a 2850 but one which has a know history, and fully tested. Continue reading
